Should have put this up yesterday really, but better late than never.

This week is one of travel’s most important, as World Travel Market is taking place at the ExCeL Centre in london.

The idea is for countries to promote their latest offerings, and update the world on the latest news.

It’s tagged as ‘The Global Event for the Travel Industry’, which pretty much sums it up.

Travel Trade Gazette, the publication I work for, will be there at stand UKI1600, and they’re reporting throughout the day.

The TTG microsite for WTM can be found here, but what’s also interesting is the Twitter feed that’s been set up (below).

ttgfeed

This cleverly picks up on all the news on Twitter about WTM, and pulls it into one box. A nice trick from TTG Web Editor Charlotte Walsh.

Despite WTM not getting off to the best start (I think Travelmole was the first to break the story of the DLR train breaking down), it looks like the event will be a success, going on feedback.

So a quick mention then about Travel Rants. The man behind this, Darren Cronin, has organsied what could possibly be the first ‘Blog Camp’ for the travel industry. Tying in neatly with WTM, this event takes place tonight and aims to connect travel boggers with the rest of the travel industry.

I quite like the style of this blog, mixing the trade and consumer angles together nicely (he was in the Telegraph recently too) and Darren’s also a prolific, dedicated Tweeter (see his Twitter feed here).

I think this is a timely event. I’ve already talked about travel and social media (worrying low levels), and the latest post from These Digital Times takes another look at companies and their use of socal media.

No agenda as such, but a four key speakers will talk about their experiences with blogging about travel.

They are: Alex Bainbridge, from Tour CMS; Karen Bryan, Europe a la Carte; Tom Dear/Molly Flat, STA Travel; and Kevin May, Travolution.

So looking forward to tonight’s event, and stay tuned to my Twitter feed for live news (possibly) or check this blog for future coverage.
